Mud Cloth Kufi
Mud Cloth Kufi
This Mud Cloth Kufi Hat is a fine example of both African craftsmanship and style. It is produced from authentic African mud cloth using an ancient process. The fabric is hand spun to make seven individual cloth sheets. Each strip of cloth is then sewn together. The whole piece of fabric is then dyed in tea made from Bogalon tree found in sub-Saharan Africa. The tea acts as a fixative for the hand painted mud designs that are created with specially prepared mud. These hats are bleached after painting to give them a lighter look. The process produces a truly unique piece. Each hat is hand made and features an exclusive look. Mud dye has been used for centuries to pass on African culture. Hat is approximately 23” in circumference. Made in Mali.
